01![]() International Design Day 2023Marking our 60th anniversary, the International Council of Design invites you to participate in this year's celebration of International Design Day on 27 April 2023 with a theme that nods to the Council’s legacy as an organisation. The theme for this year is Peace. Love. Design!. Inspired by the activism of the sixties, we encourage you to explore issues of environmentalism, social equity, collective movements and radical change. We invite Members and other design organisations to lead events, in-person or digital, covering topics related to the theme. |
02![]() PublicationWhy is a decolonial lens so urgent now as part of design professionalism? And what does "decolonizing design" mean for individual designers, institutions and universities that support design, but also for the design industry itself? Decolonizing Design by Elizabeth (Dori) Tunstall is "the long-awaited guidebook to the institutional transformation of design theory and practice by restoring the long-excluded cultures of Indigenous, Black, and People of Color communities." Interweaving lived experiences with case studies from her research, current-Dean of OCAD's Faculty of Design (Canada) addresses both leaders and practitioners in a call to action to transform, or decolonize design—for equity, inclusion and diversity.
